Throughout the year, those who are in need have an option in Lawrence County that they can turn to for assistance.

Harvest for the Hungry food pantry regularly distributes food to low-income families who register and come by for the giveaways.

The pantry serves thousands of people in the region, providing them with needed meals, including a large effort at Thanksgiving, in which the pantry goes the extra mile to make sure that those who come have the ingredients for a proper holiday feast.

The pantry has been the recipient of generous donations and now there is another way people can help its effort.

Nancy’s Nook consignment store recently moved to a new location near the Masonic Temple in downtown Ironton.

The store offers a variety of items at low prices, but its sales also aid the pantry, with all proceeds going to the cause.

We encourage everyone who can to donate to the pantry or to consider volunteering his or her time.

And, if that’s not possible, they can always visit the store, which is named in memory of a friend of Harvest director Diane Porter, knowing that their money will be going to a good cause.

They can also help out the pantry by donating items to the shop, which is seeking household good for its inventory.

Hunger, sadly, remains a problem today, and organizations like Harvest are making an impact.

There are several ways people can help in this mission and it is our hope that they will do their part to help those in need.
