PROCTORVILLE — It took the Fairland Lady Dragons a little time to heat up. But once they got going, they didn’t stop.
Leading by four points after the first quarter, Fairland outscored the Gallipolis Blue Angels by 20 points the rest of the game and rolled to a 59-35 Ohio Valley Conference win on Thursday.
Fairland is 8-3 overall and leads the OVC with a 5-0 record. Gallipolis fell to 4-4 and 1-4.
Emily Chapman and Allie Marshall scored 16 points each to lead Fairland. Chapman had seven assists while Marshall had three assists and three steals.
Alesha Simpson added 10 points and six rebounds.
Gallipolis was led by Hunter Copley with 12 points. Ryelee Sipple had eight rebounds.
Fairland took a 5-0 lead to start the game but Gallipolis tied the score on a 3-pointer by Copley at the 3:28 mark.
Chapman hit a 3-pointer at the 2:23 mark as Fairland took the lead for good at 8-5 and it was 14-10 at the end of the quarter.
A 3-pointer by Jenna Stone and two foul shots by Marshall opened up a 21-12 lead and the Lady Dragons continue to pull away as they built a 35-17 halftime cushion.
Chapman’s 3-pointer with 6:57 left in the third quarter gave the Lady Dragons a 40-17 lead and Taylar Wilson’s triple put the lead at 43-20. Simpson hit another 3-pointer and Fairland was up 46-20 with 4:55 left in the quarter.
Leading 52-25 going into the fourth quarter, Marshall’s basket with 7:35 left to play gave Fairland its largest lead at 54-25 and coach Jon Buchanan began to empty his bench.
On Monday, Fairland hosts Chesapeake and Gallipolis entertains Portsmouth.
