Gerry Holtzapfel

Dec. 13, 1932 — Jan. 5, 2018

Geraldine Lee (Burnett) Holtzapfel, 85, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.
A lifelong resident of Ironton, Gerry was born Dec. 13, 1932, the daughter of Harry and Frances Burnett. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1950, then worked as a telephone operator and later earned an LPN degree at St. Mary’s School of Nursing. Gerry was employed by Lawrence County General Hospital, retiring after 30 busy years in the emergency room. She was an active member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Women’s Club, choir, the Sunday morning breakfast club and a volunteer at Community Hospice.
Gerry was the widow of Paul Joe Holtzapfel, whom she married on April 14, 1956, enjoying 54 years together before he passed away in 2011. She is survived by three daughters, Diane (J.) Carpenter, of Dublin; Lee Ann (Jerry) Fogt, of Dublin; and Caroline (Jim) Wharton, of Columbus; her five grandchildren, Tim, Patrick (Betsy), Kelly, Steven and Jordan, cherish memories of Gram.  She is also survived by nephews, Pete (Linda) Kratzenberg, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and Jim (Cathy) Kratzenberg, of Ironton; along with many more nieces, nephews and friends.  Preceding her in death are her parents and sister, Anna Margaret (Paul) Kratzenberg.
The family will receive visitors at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gerry’s name to Community Hospice Care Center, 2380 Pollard Rd, Ashland, KY 41101 or support cancer research with a donation to Pelotonia. With much gratitude, the family thanks everyone who gave their love and support to Mom throughout her illness.

Colleen Hill

Colleen Phyllis (Moore) Hill, 89, slipped away quietly surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at The Wyngate at RiversEdge Senior Living Community, Proctorville.
Colleen was born in Huntington on Oct. 10, 1928.  She was the daughter of the late Phillip S. and V. Salome Moore.  A member of the Huntington High Class of 1946, Colleen later graduated from Marshall College in 1961 with BA in Special and Elementary Education.  She was a pioneer special educator and later became a skilled middle school math teacher.  Colleen’s career spanned more than 30 years, with her initial service beginning in Ashland Kentucky at Baylus Elementary School.
The vast majority of her professional years, however, were spent as a beloved educator in the South Point Local School District, helping hundreds of students master mathematical concepts.  Additionally, Colleen was the consummate cook and hostess. She loved feeding family and friends and her smile was ever present when she spending time with loved ones while sipping coffee and swapping stories full of laughter. She was a former member of the Highlawn Baptist Church of Huntington, West Virginia and Church of the Valley in Milton, West Virginia.
In addition to her parents, Colleen is preceded in death by her husband, C.N. Hill, Jr., in January 1982; her son, James R. Hill, in December 2006; her sister, Betty Ann (Moore) Short; and her brothers, Joe Moore, Jack Moore and Richard “Red” Moore.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline (Hill) Humphreys, along with her husband, M.A. “Tony” Humphreys, of Huntington; her son, John L. Hill, and his wife, Stephanie Musick-Hill, of Chesapeake; her granddaughters, Laura Hill Carey, of South Point; Dawn Hill Blakeman, of Bossier City, Louisiana, and Madelyn Clarice Hill, of Chesapeake; three great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Linda Hill, of South Point, and numerous loving and special cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to express gratitude to the administration and staff of The Wyngate for the loving care and attention to Colleen.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Colleen to Branches Domestic Violence Shelter, P.O. Box 403, Huntington, WV, 25708-0403; or Huntington Homeless Veterans Resource Center, 624 9th Street, Huntington, WV, 25701.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, West Virginia with Mrs. Sandy Mers officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Cemetery, Huntington. Lucille Swann

Lucille Rowe Swann, 88, of Proctorville, died Friday Jan. 5, 2017 at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, West Virginia.  Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville by Pastor Mike Smith and Pastor Jeff Black.  Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville.  Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, West Virginia or First Baptist Church of Proctorville. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall or ehallfuneralhome.com.

Linda Nowlin

Linda Joann Nowlin, 59, of Lesage, West Virginia, died Friday Jan. 5, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV.  She is survived by her husband, Rick Lee Nowlin.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.

Fleeta Burgess

Fleeta F. Burgess, 89, of South Point, died Friday Jan. 5, 2017 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington.  A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller, Ohio.  Entombment will follow.  Visitation will be held from 12:30 — 1:30 Monday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Stephen Rudmann

Oct. 31, 1947 — Jan. 6, 2018

Stephen Anthony Rudmann, 70, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018.
Steve was born in Ironton on Oct. 31, 1947 to Marjorie and Lawrence Rudmann. Steve graduated from St. Joseph High School and served as an active member of the Ohio National Guard.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Tracey Rudmann Ferrell (Paul); granddaughter, Tiffany Ferrell; grandson, Colton Ferrell; his dear father, Lawrence Sr.; his fond siblings, Rita Rudmann Watters (Nicholas), Lawrence Rudmann Jr. (Cynthia), Joan Rudmann Adkins (Malcolm), Christopher Rudmann Sr.(Tiffany) and Molly Rudmann Browning (Jeffrey); and his numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Marjorie (née Wilson) Rudmann.
Steve will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends, who fondly remember his humorous nature, kindness and whimsical laugh.
Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 905 S. Fifth St. Family will receive friends preceding the service at 10 a.m. in the church vestibule.
