SOUTH POINT — Now that’s how you start a game.
The South Point Lady Pointers jumped in front by 20 points in the first quarter and went on to beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 68-32 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
“We played pretty well, especially the first quarter. We let them back in the game a little in the second quarter, but we got the lead back up in the third,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.
South Point (6-5, 4-2) had a balanced offense led by Emilee Whitt and Ashley Perkey with 14 points each. Leah Lawson and Madison Kearns scored nine each.
Lucy Simpson scored 10 points for Rock Hill (3-8, 0-6).
Whitt scored nine points while Lawson, Kearns, Diamond Crawley and Whitt all had 3-pointers and South Point led 24-4.
Simpson and Makenzie Hanshaw scored four points each in the second quarter to offset 3-pointers by Kate Mundy and Kearns and Rock Hill cut the deficit to 35-18 at the half.
But Whitt hit another 3-pointer and scored five points in the third quarter and Perkey got six points as the Lady Pointers extended their lead to 53-26.
Both teams emptied their bench in the fourth quarter. Sarah Roach, Kara Taylor and Kearns all hit 3-pointers.
On Thursday, Rock Hill is at Fairland and South Point visits Coal Grove.
