PORTSMOUTH — It wasn’t supposed to turn cold until Friday night.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were just 9-of-45 from the field for a chilly 20 percent as they lost 72-30 to the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Thursday.
The Lady Vikings (7-5, 4-5) were also just 3-of-19 from the 3-point line. They also committed 29 turnovers.
Jensyn Shepherd had 11 points and seven rebounds to pace the Lady Vikings. Kylie Deer had seven rebounds while Rachael Hayes had six points, three assists and two steals.
Notre Dame had a balanced offense led by Kaite Dettwiller with 15 points. Ava Hassel scored 14, Lexi Smith 13 and Taylor Schmidt added 11.
The Lady Titans jumped out to a 27-5 lead as Dettwiler scored nine points and Schmidt had eight.
Shepherd had all of the Lady Vikings points in the quarter.
Hassel scored seven points, Dettwiler six more and Smith four as the lead grew to 48-14 at the half. Kaitlyn Crabtree had all five or her points in the quarter and Shepherd scored four more.
Hassel hit another 3-pointer and scored five points in the third quarter to help offset the Lady Vikings’ Kaylee Cade who came off the bench to hit a pair of 3-pointers and it was 63-23.
Symmes Valley hosts Gallipolis on Wednesday.
