Short-handed Female Flyers can’t hold off Rose Hill rally

The St. Joseph Female Flyers had a 22-point lead at halftime only to lose the game.
The Female Flyers didn’t run out of gas, they ran out of players.
With only five healthy players available, Ashley Bartram fouled out with 5:34 to play and the Rose Hill Lady Royals took advantage of the short-handed Female Flyers and rallied for a 66-61 win Friday.
Emma Whaley scored a game-high and career-high 23 points to lead St. Joseph while Alyson Johnson also scored a career-high with 19 points.
Rose Hill was led by Delaynee Sparks with 18 points, Makenlee Sparks and Bellamee Sparks with 15 each and Baylee Trimble with 12.
St. Joseph took a 13-6 first quarter lead as Whaley scored eight points, Johnson three and Faith Mahlmeister two.
The Female Flyers exploded for 24 points in the second quarter to take a 37-15 lead at the half.
Whaley hit a trifecta as she scored 10 points, Johnson had six points including 4-of-6 at the line, and Bartram added four points.
Rose Hill began its comeback in the third quarter by outscoring St. Joseph 26-14 and climb to within 51-41.
Johnson scored seven points and Emilee Blankenship three for the Female Flyers. Delaynee Sparks had 11 points and Trimble six for the Lady Royals.
Makenlee Sparks and Bellamee Sparks scored nine points each in the fourth quarter as Rose Hill completed its comeback after Bartram fouled out and left St. Joseph with just four players.
Whaley score five points as St. Joseph managed just 10 points in the quarter.
St. Joseph hosts Beaver Eastern on Monday.
