PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Lady Dragons have shot 3-points well this season, especially at home.
They were at home on Thursday.
The Lady Dragons hit 10 3-point goals as they beat the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 58-30 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Emily Chapman hit four 3-pointers and scored 21 points while Alesha Simpson made three 3-points and scored 15 points as Fairland improved to 13-2 overall and stayed unbeaten in the OVC at 8-0.
Allie Marshall added 10 points and Kelsie Warnock grabbed 12 rebounds. Simpson had three assists and four blocked shots and Chapman got four steals.
Fairland hit 6-of-10 from the 3-point line in the first half with Chapman making three triples and Simpson a pair.
The Lady Dragons were 10-of-26 from behind the arc for the game for 38 percent and 22-of-57 overall for 39 percent.
Ironton (10-4, 6-3) was its own worst enemy with 23 turnovers — many unforced — that led to just 30 field goal attempts. The Lady Tigers were 10-of-30 from the field for 30 percent and 3-of-9 from the arc.
“We have to take better care of the basketball. Our margin of error is so small that turnovers are magnified. They outshot us two-to-one,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.
“But don’t take anything away from Fairland. They’re a good team. They deserved to win.”
Lexie Arden had 11 points and seven rebounds for Ironton. Riley Schreck added eight points including a pair of 3-pointers while Lexi Wise had seven points and six rebounds.
Harley Lyons hit a 3-pointer as Fairland went up 7-2 in the first quarter. Ironton came back and tied the game on a basket by Schreck at the 2:09 mark.
Simpson then hit a basket and Chapman a 3-pointer and it was 14-9 at the end of the quarter.
Schreck and Chapman traded 3-pointers to start the second quarter, but Simpson hit two 3-pointers to close out the quarter and it was 30-19 at the half.
Wise made a layup two minutes into the second half as Ironton got within 30-21. But a steal by Chapman led to a three-point play and the lead was 33-21 and then she hit another 3-pointer to give Fairland a 36-21 with 4:20 on the clock.
Lyons hit another 3-pointer before Lydia Hannan hit a layup to stop the run and it was 39-23. Warnock and Lyons both scored and it was 43-23.
Arden hit a 17-footer and Ironton trailed 45-27 at the end of the quarter.
Simpson hit another 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter and ignited an 8-0 run to build a 53-27 lead.
Arden’s trifecta ended the run but Ironton could not generate any momentum.
Ironton visits Lucasville Valley on Saturday and hosts Gallipolis on Monday. Fairland entertains Coal Grove on Monday.
