Defense sparks Lady Pointers to win

SOUTH WEBSTER — The South Point Lady Pointers got a little defensive.
No, the Lady Pointers didn’t take exception to anything except the fact they were trailing at halftime.
South Point then held the South Webster Lady Jeeps to just 17 points in the second half as they rallied for a 53-49 win on Saturday.
The Lady Pointers had four players in double figures. Leah Lawson scored 13, Maddy Khounlavong and Madison Kearns had 11 each and Kate Mundy added 10.
Madison Cook scored 16, Ellie Jo Johnson had 13 and Avery Zempter added 10 for South Webster.
The Lady Jeeps took a 16-15 first quarter lead as Johnson scored 10 of her points. Lawson scored nine points to keep the Lady Pointers close.
South Webster continued to pull away as they took a 32-25 halftime lead. Zempter hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points to propel the Lady Jeeps
Khounlavong had five points and Mundy four points with each hitting a 3-pointer.
South Point (7-6) came out in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 41-40. Lawson and Khounlavong scored four points each and Kearns hit a 3-pointer in the surge.
Kelsi Montgomery scored all four of her points and Johnson hit a 3-pointer for the Lady Jeeps.
South Point outscored South Webster 13-8 in the fourth quarter to rally for the win.
Kearns scored five points and Mundy was 4-of-4 from the foul line. Emilee Whitt hit two key free throws.
South Point visits Portsmouth on Monday.
