Dragons start slow but then roll past Redmen

PROCTORVILLE — It took a little while for the Fairland Dragons to get their engine running, but once they did they broke the speed limit.
The Dragons erupted for 24 points in the second quarter and rolled to a 63-34 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Rock Hill Redmen on Friday.
Luke Thomas and Kollin Van Horn scored 14 points each to lead a balanced Fairland offense. Ty State and Keedrick Cunningham scored eight each and Isaiah Howell seven as the starters sat most or all of the fourth quarter.
Fairland is now 11-3 overall and sits atop the league at 6-0.
Rock Hill (0-11, 0-6) was led by Brandon Stamper and Kadin France with 11 points each. France had nine rebounds and Jaret Bacorn grabbed five.
Van Horn scored six points including a 3-pointer as Fairland took a 14-8 first quarter lead. Logan Hankins had a 3-pointer and Bacorn scored three points for the Redmen.
The Dragons broke the game open in the second quarter as they built a 38-19 halftime cushion.
Thomas and Van Horn scored six points each. Cunningham and Howell added five each. France got six points and Stamper hit a triple for the Redmen.
Thomas drained a pair of 3-pointers and seven different players scored in the third quarter as the Dragons extended their lead to 55-26.
Each team scored eight points in the fourth quarter. Clayton Thomas came off the bench to score five points including a 3-pointer for the Dragons. France, Stamper and Jake Blagg combined for Rock Hill’s total.
On Tuesday, Rock Hill visits Gallipolis and Fairland hosts Ironton.
