LUCASVILLE — Fast starts are great, especially when followed by solid defense.
The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers did both as they beat the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians 52-40 on Saturday.
Ironton )11-4) was able to get to the basket and draw fouls, especially Lexi Wise who scored 18 points including 10-of-18 from the foul line. She was 5-of-8 in the fourth quarter.
Lexi Arden hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 16 points while Haylee Stevens added eight points and Riley Schreck drained a pair of trifectas.
Bre Call scored 16 and Karsyn Conaway nine for Lucasville Valley (3-11).
Arden scored 11 points including two 3-pointers in the first quarter and Schreck hit both her 3-pointers as Ironton jumped out to a 22-7 first quarter lead.
Wise scored five points and Ellie Williams added a basket as Ironton got just seven points in the second quarter, but the defense limited Valley to nine points and the lead was 29-16 at the break.
Stevens scored six points including a 3-pointer in the third quarter. Call and Hannah Conley scored six points each as Valley cut the deficit to 40-28.
Conaway scored seven points and Call five in the fourth quarter, but Wise had seven points, Stevens made two foul shots and Arden had a free throw as she scored three points and Ironton sealed the win.
Ironton hosts Rock Hill on Monday.
