PT. PLEASANT, W.Va. — Fortunately for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings, there are two halves in basketball.
After a sluggish first half, the Lady Vikings came to life in the second half and rallied to beat the Pt. Pleasant Lady Big Blacks 55-42 on Saturday.
The Lady Vikings trailed by one point before outscoring Pt. Pleasant 32-21 in the second half.
Jensyn Shepherd had 19 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots while Kaitlyn Crabtree had 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocked shots to lead the Lady Vikings (9-5).
Rachael Hayes hit four 3-poitners as she added 12 points, four assists and two steals for the Lady Vikings.
Pt. Pleasant (1-11) had three players in double figures as Peyton Campbell scored 13, Lanen Cochran 12 and Allison Henderson 11.
Four different players scored as Pt. Pleasant took a 10-9 first quarter lead. Crabtree scored six points and Kylie Deer hit a 3-pointer for Symmes Valley.
Both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter and it was 21-20 at the half.
Shepherd scored four points and Hayes made a triple for the Vikes. Campbell scored five points including a 3-pointer and Cochran had four points for the Big Blacks.
The Lady Vikings turned up the intensity in the third quarter as Hayes hit two more 3-pointers and Shepherd scored five points as Symmes Valley took a 37-31 lead.
Campbell and Henderson scored four points each in the quarter.
Shepherd scored eight points, Crabtree four, Hayes had a 3-pointer and Taylor Sells scored three points as the Lady Vikings continued to pull away.
Cochran had seven points in the quarter while Henderson hit a 3-pointer.
Symmes Valley visits Chesapeake on Wednesday.
