HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — It was business as usual.
The St. Joseph Flyers put together a workmanlike performance as they beat the Covenant Eagles 59-33 on Monday.
“We went into the game focused, we ran our offense well, we moved the ball well and we got to play everyone and they did some nice things, too,” said Flyers’ coach Rex Cooksey.
Nine different players scored as the Flyers improved to 11-2.
Josey McDavid scored a game-high 15 points including three 3-pointers to lead the Flyers’ balanced offense.
Zach Roach also hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points while Chase Walters had 10 points.
The Flyers jumped out to a 24-4 first quarter lead and were never threatened. Walters scored eight points while McDavid and Roach scored five each.
Cooksey played his backups in the second quarter and Covenant took advantage to outscore the Flyers 15-8 and it was 32-19 at the half.
Jackson Rowe and Max Weber scored three points each in the quarter for the Flyers.
McDavid scored 10 points in the third quarter and Roach had six more as St. Joseph extended its lead to 50-32.
The backups returned in the fourth quarter and outscored Covenant 9-1. Weber scored four points, Rowe hit a 3-pointer and J.C. Damron scored two points to account for the Flyers’ scoring.
The Flyers visit New Boston on Tuesday.
