PROCTORVILLE — Bombs away!
Hitting 19 3-point goals and shooting 51 percent from behind the arc, the Fairland Lady Dragons rolled past the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 86-43 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Leading the long-range shooting was Emily Chapman who hit 6-of-10 shots from the arc and scored 22 points. Harley Lyons scored 18 points as she made five 3-pointers and Alesha Simpson made three 3-pointers for nine points.
Emma Marshall hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 11 points while Allie Marshall scored 12 points and had one 3-pointer.
Fairland moved a step closer to clinching the OVC title with the win. The Lady Dragons are 9-0 in the league and 15-2 overall.
Coal Grove (11-4, 6-3) was led by Emily Compliment with 14 points and five rebounds.
Fairland went on a 10-0 run to begin the game. Addie Dillow hit a 3-pointer and Kasey Murphy made a foul shot to get Coal Grove within 10-5.
Chapman hit a 3-pointer and Fairland led 13-5 at the end of the quarter.
The Lady Dragons hit four 3-pointers and opened up a 31-9 lead at the 2:58 mark of the second quarter.
A 3-pointer and two foul shots by Chapman and a 3-pointer by Simpson made it 45-16. Compliment hit two foul shots to end the half and it was 42-16.
Emma Marshall’s basket with 1:02 left in the third quarter gave Fairland a 67-29 lead. The Lady Hornets’ Jaidyn Griffith hit two foul shots and it was 67-31.
On Thursday, Coal Grove hosts Gallipolis and Fairland goes to South Point.
