PEDRO — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers were able to flip a switch at halftime.
Leading by only seven points at the break, the Lady Panthers scored 41 points in the second half and beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 68-42 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
“At halftime, we went in and we weren’t really happy offensively and defensively. We thought we were being lazy. Coach (Todd) Knipp does a great job with (Rock Hill),” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.
“We were able to come out and get after it in the second half and take over the game. It was good to have four girls in double figures. I was happy to see that.”
Chesapeake had four players in double figures led by Natalee Hall with 21. Brooke Webb and Karli Davis scored 14 points each and Shia Ervin added 12.
Davis had six rebounds and Webb grabbed five. Hall had four assists and three steals, Haley Stapleton handed out three assists and Webb blocked four shots.
Rock Hill (3-10, 0-8) was paced by Maddie Scott with 14 points and Ryleigh Morris scored 10.
Chesapeake (7-7, 5-3) took a 14-9 first quarter lead as Ervin scored five points and Webb had four.
David scored six points as Chesapeake went ahead 27-19 at the half. Noel hit a 3-pointer and scored five points for the Redwomen.
The Lady Panthers turned up the offense as they began to pull away.
Hall scored nine points and Webb and Davis six each as Chesapeake extended its lead to 48-32.
Scott had eight points and Morris four to try and keep the Redwomen close.
Hall scored eight more points and Ervin had seven points in the fourth quarter as Chesapeake continued to pull away.
Lucy Simpson was 4-of-4 from the foul line and Scott scored four points for Rock Hill in the quarter.
Rock Hill visits Ironton on Thursday while Chesapeake hosts Symmes Valley on Wednesday and Portsmouth on Thursday.
