PEDRO — When you’re missing your leading scorer, you just find someone else to score.
Playing without senior guard Cole Mills who was out due to an illness, the Chesapeake Panthers had three players in double figures as beat the Rock Hill Redmen 48-37 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Eli Archer scored 14 points, Logan Walsh had 12 points and Austin Jackson 10 as the Panthers improved to 4-9 and 3-4 in the OVC.
Rock Hill (0-12, 0-9) was led by Jaret Bacorn with 12 points while Braden Stamper scored nine.
Chesapeake had an early 6-2 lead before Logan Hankins made two foul shots and Bacorn scored to give the Redmen a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Walsh hit a 3-point goal to put the Panthers up 9-7 and then Bacorn tied the game at 9-9.
Jackson then scored and Archer had back-to-back basket as Chesapeake went up 15-9.
Bacorn got the Redmen within 15-13 before Jackson and Walsh scored help the Panthers take a 20-15 halftime lead.
Tylan Hutchison, Kamren Harless and Archer all scored to start the second half as Chesapeake opened up a 26-15 lead.
Bacorn hit two straight baskets to end the quarter as Rock Hill cut the deficit to 29-24.
Kadin France hit two foul shots and then hit a basket to get Rock Hill within 33-28. But Jackson and Walsh scored and Archer sank two foul shots to make it 39-28.
Josh Ramey made two foul shots that gave Chesapeake its biggest lead at 47-33.
On Tuesday, Rock Hill travels to Ironton. Chesapeake hosts Coal Grove at 3 p.m. on Saturday and Portsmouth on Tuesday.
