COAL GROVE — Addie Dillow stepped in and then stepped up.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ freshman guard stepped in for Bailey McKnight at point guard and stepped up with 10 points and five assists in a 55-33 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Rock Hill Redwomen on Monday.
“We had a strong defensive first half and Dillow had a real nice first quarter,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach. “She was also able to get the open kids the ball.
“Murphy was sick but she was able to come out and play strong on the boards. My kids have been doing a great job playing together and having confidence in each other’s abilities. With McKnight still out I am seeing some good minutes out of Griffith and Bryant.”
Coal Grove’s Emily Compliment led all scorers with 16 points while Kasey Murphy grabbed 10 rebounds.
Rock Hill (3-12, 0-10) had two players in double figures with Maddie Scott scoring 13 and Lucy Simpson getting 11.
Dillow scored eight of her points in the first quarter and the defense held Rock Hill to seven points and it was 16-7.
The Lady Hornets (13-4, 8-3) continued to pull away in the second quarter as the defense limited the Redwomen to four points.
Compliment hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points while Emileigh Griffith scored four points and it was 36-11.
Simpson scored five points as Rock Hill outscored the Lady Hornets 11-8 to make it 47-22. Destiny Dolen scored four points of her eight points for the Lady Hornets.
Both teams scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Compliment scored six points to pace Coal Grove while Scott scored seven points and Simpson four.
On Thursday, Rock Hill visits Portsmouth while Coal Grove hosts Chesapeake.
