Money to purchase needle resistant gloves

The Ironton Police Department recently accepted a $750 donation from Ironton Elks Lodge 177 in order to assist the department with purchasing needle-resistant gloves.

“Today, it’s an unfortunate reality that as our officers conduct a personnel search that they may get stuck by an exposed needle and potentially contract Hepatitis C, HIV or some other disease,” IPD Chief Pam Wagner said. “The Elks’ generous donation will enable us to purchase about a dozen heavy duty, needle resistant gloves. These will offer so much more protection than latex medical exam type gloves that are easily punctured.”

Brad Washburn, Ironton Elks 177 exalted ruler, said helping out the community is something that the Elks are all about.

“One Elks saying is ‘The Elks care, the Elks share,’” he said. “We were able to put this into practice, and we appreciate the job of the IPD and always look forward to giving back to our community.”

With nearly 900,000 members and more than 2,000 lodges nationwide, the Elks are a fraternal organization providing charitable services that help build stronger communities across the United States.

Ironton Elks Lodge 177 is also always looking for community-minded new members.
