WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings can see their way through adversity even if there is a “Hayes” covering the court.
Rachael Hayes scored a game-high 22 and had three steals as the Lady Vikings rallied past the Gallipolis Blue Angels 53-48 on Saturday.
Jensyn Shepherd finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out. Kaitlyn Crabtree had 14 rebounds and three steals while Taylor Sells had seven rebounds, four assists and five steals for Symmes Valley (11-8).
Gallipolis (9-11) was paced by Alex Barnes with 20 points and Abby Cremeans scored 15.
Cremeans hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points while Barnes had four points to give Gallipolis a 13-10 first quarter lead.
All of the Lady Vikings’ points came at the foul line as they hit 10-of-12 attempts. Shepherd was 4-of-4 and Crabtree and Hayes 3-of-4.
The Lady Vikings got their offense in gear in the second quarter as they rallied to take a 30-22 halftime lead.
Hayes hit a 3-pointer and score seven points, Shepherd scored six and Kylie Deer hit a 3-pointer.
Cremeans had four points and Barnes was 3-of-4 at the line.
Symmes Valley extended its lead to 43-32 after three quarters.
Hayes had another big quarter with 10 points including two 3-pointers. Ryelee Sipple hit a 3-pointer and scored five points for Gallipolis.
The Lady Vikings connected on 6-of-10 free throws in the fourth quarter to halt the Blue Angels’ comeback hopes.
Barnes scored 12 points with a 3-pointer and 5-of-7 from the line.
