PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons need one win to get three titles.
The Dragons beat the Chesapeake Panthers 71-35 on Saturday and now need just a win at Gallipolis on Tuesday to clinch at least a share of their third straight Ohio Valley Conference title.
Fairland (16-3, 11-0) has won the past two titles outright. Gallipolis enters the game with two league losses.
Isaiah Howell scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Kollin Van Horn had 14 points, eight rebounds and eight blocked shots to lead the Dragons.
Keedrick Cunningham was also in double figures with 12 points. Ty Staten had nine points and Luke Thomas hit three 3-pointers for nine points
Chesapeake (5-13, 3-8) was led by Tylan Hutchison with eight points and Eli Archer with seven.
Archer hit a 3-pointer to start the game but it was Chesapeake’s only lead.
The Dragons then went on an 11-2 run to take a 13-5 lead.
Archer converted a three-point play only to be negated by Thomas’ 3-pointer and it was 16-8 at the end of the quarter.
A free throw by Austin Jackson had the Panthers down 20-13 and then Fairland took off.
Van Horn scored eight points and Cunningham hit two 3-pointers and another basket just before the end of the half as the lead grew to 39-16.
The lead was 41-20 early in the third quarter when Howell made two foul shots, Thomas hit back-to-back 3-pointers, Van Horn scored and Howell hit a 3-pointer for a 54-20 cushion.
The Panthers’ Logan Walsh made two straight 3-pointers to end the quarter and it was 54-26.
Baskets by Ty Wilcoxon and Staten plus a 3-pointer by Howell to open the fourth quarter gave Fairland a 61-28 lead.
Chesapeake travels to Coal Grove on Tuesday.
