Ashland warms up for football-themed Gravy Bowl

ASHLAND, Ky. — The Super Bowl is over and the real “bowl” game is underway as the community gets ready to cheer for their favorite biscuit and gravy dishes at The Gravy Bowl.

The Gravy Bowl will take place from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Saturday at Park Place, 1701 Central Ave. in Ashland.

The event features biscuit and gravy samplings crafted by local restaurants, community organizations and home cooks. Gravy chefs will be participating in a professional or amateur division. Featured gravy categories are sawmill gravy (meat gravy), country gravy (meatless gravy), and a freestyle category.

Chefs competing in the professional division are: Alma’s Italian; Ashland Community Kitchen; Blazer’s Restaurant & Bakery; and Clark’s Pump-n-Shop.

Competing amateur chefs are: Ann Perkins; Ashland Fire Department; Build Ashland; Daily Independent; Duffy Dyer Realty; Heartland Lodge; Infusions Solutions; Jerry York, Jr.; Taj Sardar; and the Young Professionals Association.
Participants will be competing for Best of Show Awards, People’s Choice Award, and the Biscuit Blitz Award, judged on best décor and team spirit.

Biscuits will be provided courtesy of Alma’s Italian. Event activities are made possible by presenting sponsor Infusions Solutions.

Event participants will also offer “add-on” items such as hash browns, pastries, and other breakfast favorites that are redeemable via tasting tickets.

Concession items will be available for purchase, as well as a “brunch bar” hosted by Blazer’s Restaurant & Bakery.

Admission to The Gravy Bowl is open to the public; sampling is redeemed through ticket purchase. Tasting tickets may be purchased on-site the day of the event. Individual tasting tickets are $1 or six (6) tickets for $5.

The Gravy Bowl event also features football-themed challenges, including the Paper Football Tournament. Guests are invited to enter the tournament and play other local paper football enthusiasts for the chance to win a grand prize.

The Paper Football Tournament grand prize is a pair of second row tickets to the opening season UK football game at Kroger Stadium on September 1. Tickets are valued at $160.

Space in the competition is limited. Interested participants are encouraged to contact director@ashlandinmotion.org to preregister.
