Raymond Shears

July 17, 1943 — Feb. 5, 2018

Raymond “Bob” Shears, 74, of Kitts Hill, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Lawrence County native was born July 17, 1943, a son of the late Ramey and Mabel Roberts Shears.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Christy “Susie” Johnson Shears, whom he married Sept. 14, 1981.
Bob was a 1961 graduate of Rock Hill High School and a self-employed contractor for 45 years, retiring in 2012. He was a huge supporter of the Democratic Party and St. Jude. His biggest hobby was spending time with his four youngest grandchildren, Gabby, Kaydance, Landon and Damian; and his beloved dog, Carburetor. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond “Bobby” Shears and Stephen Shears; and his mother-in-law, Phyllis “Flip” Johnson.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Shears, of Texas, and Justin (Melissa) Shears, of Kitts Hill; a daughter, Andera (David) Haskins, of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; a sister, Janice (Jack) Dickess, of Kitts Hill; his father-in-law, Billy Johnson; a special niece, Tara Elkins; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Edith Bailey

Edith White Bailey, 93, of Franklin Furnace, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018. She was born July 5, 1924, in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Donald White and Laura Bowles White.
Edith attended Ohio Furnace Grade School and Green Township High School, but later achieved her diploma in her sixties. She was employed by Wilson’s Sporting Goods for 40-plus years. She attended Ohio Furnace Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading and word search. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and all who knew her loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Willard “David” Bailey; grandson, Pete Schwab; brothers, Don, Steve, Ralph, Bob and Jerry White; and three sisters, Laura White, Opal Murnahan and Elsie Kimbler.
Those left to cherish her memory include son, Donald (Sheila) Howard, of Franklin Furnace; daughter, Sharon (Jeff) Logan, of Decatur, Illinois; sisters, Violet Stewart, of Ironton, Alice Pinkerton, of Franklin Furnace, and Vera Keating, of Cleveland; brother, Lewis White, of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, and 1 p.m. Sunday, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Haverhill Cemetery. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

Joan Lillian (Taft) Combs, 89, of South Point, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with pastor Jamie Gump officiating. Friends may call from noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Michelle Nicole Conley, 33, of Franklin Furnace, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Southern Ohio Medical Center, Portsmouth.

Austin Gregory Hester, 21, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018.

William Morrison Jr.
William Jennings Morrison Jr., of Proctorville, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at home. He is survived by his wife, Judith Conley Morrison.
