RACINE — Just getting in a little foul shooting practice before the tournament.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings and Southern Lady Tornadoes combined for 46 fouls and 66 free throw attempts on Saturday.
Southern didn’t have a good percentage but still went 16-of-40 and edged the Lady Vikings 54-51.
The Lady Vikings (11-10) shot well from the line as they made 20-of-26 attempts.
The two teams meet again on Monday at 6:15 p.m. at Meigs High School in the Division IV sectional tournament.
Jensyn Shepherd scored 22 points including 8-of-10 at the line, grabbed 14 rebounds and had three blocked shots for the Lady Vikings. Rachael Hayes scored 21 points.
Baylee Wolfe scored 15 points and Phoenix Cleland had 12 points for Southern (6-16).
Shepherd scored seven points in the first quarter and Kaitlyn Crabtree was 3-of-4 at the line as Symmes Valley took a 10-5 lead.
Wolfe had five points, Jaiden Roberts hit a 3-pointer and the Lady Tornadoes were 5-of-7 at the line as they cut the spread to 23-21 at the half.
Hayes hit a trey and Shepherd scored eight points including 6-of-6 at the line for the lady Vikings.
Southern tied the game in the third quarter at 33. Wolfe had five points — she was 3-of-6 at the line — and Paige VanMeter hit a 3-pointer.
Hayes scored six of the Lady Vikings’ 10 points.
Both teams began to live at the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Hayes scored 12 points and was 6-of-6 at the line while Shepherd had five points including 1-of-3 free throws. Kylie Deer was 1-of-2 from the line.
Southern was 7-of-16 at the line in the quarter. Wolfe scored five points and Lauren Lavender four. Cleland went 3-for-8 at the line and Josie Cundiff 2-for-4.
