CHESAPEAKE — It’s been a season of peaks and valleys for the South Point Pointers.
There was another valley on Saturday.
The Pointers were up and down during the game and it resulted in a 60-47 loss to the Eastern Brown Warriors in the annual Beast of the Southeast.
South Point (9-11) had a bad first quarter, good second, bad third and good fourth.
Tayshaun Fox scored 14 points and Douglas Shaffer hit four 3-pointers as he scored 12 points to lead South Point.
Eastern (13-7) had four players in double figures as Hunter Ruckel scored 14, Marcus Hamilton 13 and T.J. Stivers and Colton Vaughn had 12 each.
Skeens scored six points and Vaughn four points in the first quarter as the Warriors took a 19-6 lead. Chance Gunther had four points for South Point.
The Pointers rallied in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 27-21 at the half.
Shaffer hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter and Gunther added four more points. Hamilton and Ruckel each hit 3-pointers for Eastern.
Five different players scored in the third quarter as Eastern extended its lead to 40-30. Fox had seven of the Pointers nine points in the quarter.
Skeens and Vaughn had six points each in the fourth quarter and Hamilton hit a 3-pointer and scored five points as the Warriors outscored the Pointers 20-17.
Shaffer drained two more triples, Jared Whitt got all five of his points and Austin Webb scored four points in the fourth quarter for South Point.
On Tuesday, South Point hosts Wheelersburg.
