Trimble downs Panthers, 51-36

CHESAPEAKE — One bad quarter did spoil the whole bunch for the Chesapeake Panthers.
Chesapeake scored just four points in the second quarter and the Trimble Tomcats took advantage of the low-scoring output to post a 51-36 win on Saturday in the annual Beast of the Southeast.
Trimble’s win also gave coach Howie Caldwell his 500th career victory.
Eli Archer scored 13 points and Christian Layne had 10 points off the bench to pace the Panthers (5-16).
Trimble (15-4) was led by Randy Hixson with a game-high 24 points
Archer six points in the first quarter as Chesapeake took a 13-12 lead. Hixson scored six points and Max Hopper four as Trimble stayed close.
But Hixson hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the second quarter as Trimble outscored Chesapeake 13-4 and took a 25-17 lead at the break.
Archer accounted for all of Chesapeake’s points in the quarter.
Hixson had four points as four different players scored in the third quarter and the Tomcats extended the lead to 35-26. Walsh hit a triple for the Panthers.
In the fourth quarter, Hixson had six points and Bryce Richards got all four of his points for Trimble. The duo combined to convert 6-of-7 at the foul line.
Layne had six points in the quarter for Chesapeake.
Chesapeake visits Gallipolis on Friday.
