GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds voided the minor league contract of right-handed reliever Jeff Manship on Thursday after he failed to pass a physical and they agreed to a minor league deal with former Los Angeles Angels infielder Cliff Pennington.
Manship has pitched for Minnesota, Colorado, Philadelphia and Cleveland. He went 2-1 with a 3.12 ERA in 53 games for the Indians in 2016 and pitched in South Korea last season.
Pennington, 33, is a utility infielder who could add depth at several positions. He has played for Oakland, Arizona, Toronto and the Angels.
He batted .253 in 87 games last season with three homers and 21 RBIs. The Reds said he will report to big league spring training.
Shortstop Zack Cozart became a free agent and signed with the Angels.
