Thundering Herd basketball team wins first round of NCAA tournament

13th-seed Marshall University’s Thundering Herd basketball team defeated the 4th-seed Wichita State Shockers Friday afternoon, 81-75, in the East Region of the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament.

This was Marshall’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 31 years.

The Herd will take on the West Virginia University Mountaineers at 9:40 p.m. Sunday on TBS in the Round of 32 for the opportunity to go to the Sweet Sixteen.
