Rallying for those in need

Cancer does not discriminate and can strike anyone.

Age is no guarantee of avoiding a health crisis and three students from Lawrence County — Laykin Hayes of Symmes Valley, Ally Henderson of Fairland and Tanner Harr of Chesapeake — are currently battling the disease.

In addition to medical costs, families engaged in this fight often find themselves facing expenses from travel to treatment facilities, and it can quickly take a financial toll on a household.

Fortunately, a community is rallying to help.

Churches and students from the three schools have come together to plan a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the students, set for 4:30-8 p.m. tomorrow at Collins Career Technical Center.

At $5 a ticket, the goal is to raise as much as possible for the three families, pastor Justin Berry, of Getaway Community Church, ans an organizer of the event, said.
Those who are interested in attending can buy tickets in advance by calling Berry at 740-643-2371.

When hardship strikes, school rivalries melt away and Friday’s event is an inspiring effort to help.

We hope many turn out for the dinner and we are rooting for Hayes, Henderson and Harr in their battle.
