AID — It’s always nice to win the first one.
The Symmes Valley Vikings got a good all-around effort as they beat the Fairview Eagles in their opener 7-2 on Monday.
“It’s always nice to get some of the jitters out. Some of these kids haven’t played for a while.,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.
“Our defense was good and we had a few hits and Gothard threw really well.”
Layken Gothard got the win as he struck out six, walked three and did not allow a hit. He was 2-for-2 at the plate as the Vikings had eight hits.
Nick Klaiber was 2-4 with two RBI and Derik Brace 1-4 with a double for the Vikings.
The Vikings Gothard walked, moved up on a fielder’s choice and Klaiber got an RBI single.
The lead went to 3-0 in the third.
