GALLIPOLIS — Two of the top teams in the Ohio Valley Conference race sent their top pitchers against each other on Monday.
The results were what would be expected.
Gallipolis Blue Devils’ Josh Faro out-dueled Rock Hill Redmen ace Cody Lewis in a 2-1 win.
Faro pitched a three-hitter, stuck out 12 and did not walk a batter to get the complete game win.
Lewis matched Faro as he gave up four hits, struck out five, walked two and only one run was earned.
“It was just a great high school baseball game,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.
“I can’t say enough about how well Cody pitched. Their kid just pitched a heck of a game, too. They just had one more key hit than we did.”
Gallipolis (3-2, 2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Dylan Smith singled, stole second and scored when Morgan Stanley reached on a two-base error.
The Blue Devils got what proved to be the winning run in the fourth inning.
Faro singled and courtesy runner Matt Moreaux stole second. He went to third on a ground out by Dylan Smith and scored on a two-out base hit by Cole Davis.
Rock Hill (6-1, 4-1) got its run in the fifth when Landon Smith singled, went to third on an error by Faro and scored on a wild pitch.
The two teams meet at Rock Hill on Wednesday.
