HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Brunson Barker outdueled Eli Bowen as the St. Joseph Fighting Irish blanked the Fairland Dragons 4-0 on Tuesday.
Brunson allowed just two hits as he struck out five and walked three.
Bowen gave up eight hits, struck out three and walked one. Only two of the runs he allowed were earned.
“It was an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel,” said Fairland coach Alex Beelen. “Eli pitched well and our defense backed him up. We couldn’t make the adjustments at the plate and didn’t a hit until the seventh inning. We made a lot of hard outs.”
Fairland’s Darius Stapleton broke up the no-hitter in the seventh inning with a single down the left field line just past the outstretched arms of the third baseman
Tayton Hunt singled for the Dragons other hit.
Fairland hosts South Point on Wednesday.
