The St. Joseph Lady Flyers had one of those defensive games.
In uncharacteristic fashion, the Lady Flyers committed 10 errors in an 8-4 lost to the Grace Christian Lady Soldiers on Tuesday.
The Lady Soldiers got two runs on three hits and an error in the first inning. They added a run on two hits and another error in the second and a run on no hits and two errors in the third to lead 4-0.
Grace Christian scored two runs in the fifth to lead 6-0 on just one hit and two errors.
St. Joseph cut the deficit to 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth.
Faith Mahlmeister reached on a dropped third strike. Karly Young hit into a fielder’s choice and Paige Preston walked.
Emma Whaley doubled to score Elliee Blankenship who was running for Young. Isabella Griffith reached on an error as Preston scored.
Kaitlyn Sheridan singled to drive in Whaley. Kelsey Malone then singled home Griffith.
Grace Christian added two insurance runs in the seventh on two hits and another error.
The Lady Flyer shad nine hits with Malone and Alex Holtzapfel going 3-4. Whaley, Sheridan and Ashley Bartram each had a hit.
Holtzapfel pitched well in defeat. She struck out seven, walked one and only one run was earned.
