CHESAPEAKE — Two pitchers threw well, but one threw better.
Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ Brooke Webb fashioned a four-hitter in a 3-1 win over Hunter Copley and the Gallipolis Blue Angels in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
“Brooke threw a great game. She had eight strikeouts and no walks. That’s a pretty game. She was in control,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Aaron Rice.
“Their girl threw a nice game, too. We were able to get some key hits when we needed.”
Hunter Copley took the loss as she struck out four, walked two and two runs were earned.
Gallipolis got an unearned run in the top of the first when Alex Barnes reached on an error, Chasity Adams got a bunt single and Bailey Meadows grounded out.
Chesapeake (8-4, 7-1) came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning when Ashley Tackett singled, Katy Spears bunted for a hit and Ryleigh Swann had an RBI single.
The Lady Panthers took a 2-1 lead in the second when Zowie Rollins singled, went to third on an error and scored when Spears reached on an error.
Chesapeake got an insurance run in the sixth on a hit by Tackett, Spears’ sacrifice and Webb’s base hit.
Tackett was 2-4 as Chesapeake had seven hits.
Chesapeake plays at Rock Hill on Thursday and visits Gallipolis on Friday.
