HAMLIN, W.Va. — Mel Gibson isn’t the only one who wanted to get a little payback.
After losing to Lincoln County a few weeks ago, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers evened the score as they beat the Lady Panthers 7-3 on Saturday.
“I’m glad we got a rematch. I felt confident we could beat them and we did just that,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.
Mary Beth Burton pitched a five-hitter and Kenzie Cremeens played double-or-nothing by going 3-4 with three doubles and three runs batted in to lead Ironton.
Riley Schreck was 2-5 while Haylee Stevens and Kiandra Martin were both 2-4.
The Lady Panthers got all their runs in the first inning.
Natalie Fout and Randa Watts singled, Koree Roberts reached on a one-out error for a run, Kagen Frye doubled home a run and Watts stole home.
Ironton cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth inning.
Schreck had a one-out single, Cremeens doubled and Demi Sands was safe on an error to drive in a run. Peighton Rowe hit into a fielder’s choice to knock in the second run.
Ironton took the lead with three runs in the sixth.
Rylie Vaughn walked, Holly Dutey hit into a fielder’s choice, Burton and Schreck reached on errors to load the bases and Cremeens promptly emptied them with a three-run double.
The Lady Tigers added two runs in the seventh.
Stevens singled, Martin was safe on an error, Dutey was hit by a pitch and Burton drilled a two-run double.
Ironton hosts Portsmouth on Monday.
