Redmen, Lewis get key OVC win over Pointers

PEDRO — Cody Lewis was in shutdown mode.
Lewis pitched a one-hitter as the Rock Hill Redmen shut out the South Point Pointers 5-0 in a pivotal Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Lewis struck out five and walked three in going the distance.
“We came up with the defensive plays when we needed them. We played well defensively. The walks and error didn’t hurt us because we turned four double plays. And we had some timely hits,” said Litteral.
“Cody pitched well. When you only give up one hit, you can’t really complain about anything.”
Jonathon Henline pitched well for the Pointers as he struck out four, walked two and gave up three earned runs.
Rock Hill is 12-1 and 10-1 in the OVC. South Point fell to 12-2 and 7-2 in the conference.
Rock Hill got the only run it needed in the second inning when Logan Hankins walked, stole second and scored on a hit by Kaden France.
The Redmen added two runs in the third.
Jake Blagg got an infield hit, Seth Nichols was safe on a throwing error, Lewis hit a sacrifice fly and Kaleb Kidd had an RBI double.
A run scored in the when Nichols singled, Lewis sacrificed him to second and Hankins had an RBI single.
The final run scored in the sixth when Jaret Bacorn singled and Landon Smith hit into a force play but stole second and scored on Brayden Friend’s double.
Rock Hill had nine hits led by Kidd going 2-3 with a double and two RBI.
