CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto has been named the National League Player of the Week presented by W.B. Mason for the period ending April 29.
Votto batted .360 (9-for-25) with seven runs scored, a double, four home runs, eight RBI and nine walks to claim his fifth career Player of the Week Award, last winning in 2017 with the Reds for the period ending July 2nd.
Among his NL counterparts, the five-time NL All-Star finished the week first in home runs; tied for first in total bases (22) and walks; second in on-base percentage (.543) and slugging percentage (.880); tied for second in RBI and extra-base hits (5); tied for third in runs scored; and tied for seventh in hits.
On April 27th against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, Votto went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, a double, home run and two RBI to help propel the Reds to a 15-9 victory.
In the contest, the patient 34-year-old slugger reached base six times for the second time in his career, and the first since May 18, 2013 at Philadelphia.
Additionally, Votto’s round-tripper marked his fourth consecutive game with a home run dating back to April 24th and matched his career long. The Toronto native also matched a career best with at least one RBI in six consecutive games from April 22-27, previously accomplishing the feat during his NL MVP-winning 2010 campaign. Votto recorded a hit in each contest during the impressive streak, slashing .391/.533/.957 to lead Cincinnati to three wins.
