On Wednesday, The Tribune hosted a forum at Ohio University Southern to address the opioid crisis in our region.

This was the first in a series of events we are planning on the issue in coming months.

We would like to thank our panelists for participating and giving us an informative, discussion on the issue.

Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Andy Ballard and Sheriff Jeff Lawless have been exemplary public servants and have been at the forefront of the issue. Their insight on the crisis brought a lot to the discussion.

Dr. Todd Davies, through his work with infants who have been exposed prenatally to addictive substances, has seen some of the most tragic aspects of the crisis, while Andrea Boxill, of Gov. John Kasich’s cabinet, demonstrated a vast and thorough knowledge of the  issue and resources available throughout Ohio.

We thank all who came out to hear the panel, ask questions and participate in the forum.

Attendees ranged from local leaders, to families of those addicted to those in recovery, as well as concerned citizens wanting to learn more on the issue.

We will continue to report on this crisis and will aim to promote solutions for our community.

We would also like to hear your suggestions and feedback as we move forward.

It is our hope that the event will serve to motivate further discussion and involvement on the issue.
