Green wins 2nd straight SOC baseball title

AID — The Green Bobcats are getting to like calling themselves Southern Ohio Conference champions.
For the second straight season, Green won the SOC baseball title outright as they beat the Symmes Valley Vikings 13-1 in five innings on Friday.
Coming off a 5-0 no-hitter on Monday against Sciotoville East, Tayte Carver ran his record to 5-1 as the pitched a five-hitter, struck out seven and walked one.
“Tayte Carver had a no-hitter on Monday to clinch a share of the title and then comes back and controls the hill to give us the title outright.,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
“Rylee Maynard backed him with a great performance at the plate and with his defense. He’s really stepped up his game this season. He hasn’t made an error all season.
“Tanner Kimbler has been a model of consistency and Mason Barber had a big game for us. We got contributions all through the lineup. We’re happy to win the title, but we ‘ve got more goals ahead of us.”
Green finishes the regular season 14-3 and 11-1 in the conference. The Bobcats are 33-3 in the past two seasons in the SOC.
The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Maynard singled, stole second and Kimbler had an RBI single. Kimbler went to second on an outfield error, stole third and came home on a sacrifice fly by Levi Singleton.
Green got a run in the second when Cade Brammer double, Eli Webb had an infield hit and Maynard hit a sacrifice fly.
The Bobcats opened the game up with six runs in the third.
Carver singled, stole second, took third on Bryce Ponn’s base hit and he stole second. Barber followed with a two-run single.
Hayden Whittis singled, Webb was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Maynard singled in two runs and Kimbler doubled home two more runs.
The Vikings got their run in the bottom of the third when Hunter Wilson was hit by a pitch and Layken Gothard doubled.
The lead went to 12-1 in the fourth.
Ponn singled, Barber doubled and Whittis got an RBI single. Webb and Maynard followed with RBI singles.
The final run scored in the fifth when Jacob McKenzie and Derrick Brown and Carter McKenzie singled and Ethan Carpenter walked to force in the run.
Green plays at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the Division IV sectional tournament against the winner of St. Joseph and Western.
