SOUTH POINT — Jonathan Henline was right online. And he had to be because Bryce Depriest was logged in as well.
Henline pitched a three-hitter as the South Point Pointers got a run in the seventh inning to edge the Chesapeake Panthers 3-2 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Henline struck out eight, walked four and gave up one earned run.
Depriest also threw a three-hitter. He struck out one, walked four and two runs were earned.
“Jonathon Henline pitched a great game and our defense made some good plays. Logan Rose came through with a big pinch-hit to give us the walk-off win,” said Pointers’ coach Larry Goodwin.
“We did just enough offensively to get the win.”
South Point took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Douglas Shaffer reached on an error, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored on an error.
Chesapeake scored twice in the fifth to lead 2-1.
With two outs, Jaden Kerns singled, Hunter Henson was hit by a pitch, Kelton Jones singled for a run, Evan Burcham walked and a passed ball scored the second run.
The Pointers tied the game in the sixth when Shaffer reached on an error, Brody Blackwell walked, and Travis Dillon had an RBI single.
South Point got the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Drake McClure walked, stole second, went to third on Brycen McCann’s sacrifice and scored on a hit by Logan Rose.
Chesapeake hosts Fairland at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Division III sectional tournament. South Point plays in the sectional on Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. against the Meigs and Southeastern winner.
