Ironton, Cremeens breeze in finale, 13-1

Kenzie Cremeens took a great career and capped it with a great game.
The Ironton senior catcher celebrated senior night by going 2-3 with a home run and four runs batted in as the Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 13-1 in five innings on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Riley Schreck continued to swing a hot bat for Ironton as she went 2-2 with a triple and an RBI. Peighton Rowe was 2-3 as Ironton had nine hits.
Fairland took a 1-0 lead in the first on a walk to Adrianna Hoffman, Morgan Fridley’s base hit, a walk the Libby Judge and Montana Runnels RBI single.
The lead stood up until the bottom of the third when Ironton scored eight times.
Kiandra Martin started the inning with a single. An out later, Mary Beth Burton was safe on an error as Martin scored. Schreck got a two-out triple to give Ironton the lead.
Cremeens singled home Schreck and went to second on the return throw from the outfield. Taiya Hamlet singled as Cremeens scored.
Demi Sands was safe on an error to put runners at second and third and Haylee Stevens doubled in a run. Martin and Rylie Vaughn both reached on errors to produce two more runs.
The Lady Tigers added five runs in the fourth to create the run-rule win.
Rowe opened the inning with a single and Schreck followed with a base hit. Cremeens then showed her speed with an inside-the-park home run to make it 11-1.
Hamlet was hit by a pitch, Sands reached on an error. Stevens lined out but an error on the play scored Hamlet. M’Kenzie McMaster was hit by a pitch and Holly Dutey hit into a fielder’s choice as the final run scored.
Fridley and Hoffman both went 2-3 to pace the Lady Dragons who made seven errors that led to 10 unearned runs.
Ironton hosts Southeastern at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Division III sectional tournament.
