Lady Flyers fall at Fairview

ASHLAND, Ky. — Errors have plagued the St. Joseph Lady Flyers most of the season. They showed up again on Thursday.
The Lady Flyers had seven costly errors in a 21-10 loss to the Fairview Lady Eagles.
St. Joseph went ahead 3-0 in the first inning.
Kaitlyn Sheridan and Alex Holtzapfel both walked and Kelsey Malone had an RBI single. Faith Mahlmeister followed with a run-scoring single and Emma Whaley’s ground out scored Malone.
Fairview scored five runs on five hits and an error in the bottom of the inning highlighted by Alexis Claar’s two-run homer.
The Lady Flyers regain the lead with three runs in the second.
Sheridan and Holtzapfel both walked again and Malone singled in another run. Malone stole second and a throwing error scored Holtzapfel and Malone went to third. Ashley Bartram then hit a sacrifice fly.
Fairview tied the run in the bottom of the inning on a hit and an error.
St. Joseph went back in front 9-6 in the third.
With two outs, Paige Preston and Sheridan walked and Holtzapfel had an RBI single. Malone reached on a missed third strike to load the bases and Bartram drilled a two-run double.
The Lady Flyers defense struggled in the bottom of the inning with four errors that lead to seven runs on just three hits and Fairland led 13-9.
Fairview blew the game open with eight runs on seven hits and an error to lead 21-9 after four innings.
The Lady Flyers kept battling and got a run in the fifth when Holtzapfel and Malone walked, Bartram hit into a force play but Mahlmeister had a run-scoring single.
Malone was 2-3, Mahlmeister 2-4, Holtzapfel 1-1 and Bartram 1-3 to account for the St. Joseph offense.
