Jeraldine Blakeman

Jeraldine Ruth Blakeman, 93, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at a local health care facility.
The Coal Grove, Ohio native was born Aug. 16, 1924, the daughter of the late Ralph and Bess Haskins Nourse.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, James S. Blakeman, whom she married on Oct. 28, 1944.
Jeraldine was a graduate of Coal Grove High School and an assistant chief operator of Ohio Bell Telephone Company, where she worked for 10 years. She was also a self-employed seamstress and started the Vacation Bible School program at Sugar Creek Church in 1960. She is a member of Calvary Baptist Church, but she was very active in all the churches she attended.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James M. Blakeman; and two baby brothers, Ralph “Bud” Jr. and Gary “Scoop;” and a sister, Norma Lou Bruce.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet (Ronnie) Kerns, of Ironton; two sisters, Sue Carey, of Coal Grove, and Carol Nourse, of Columbus; grandchildren, Mark Kerns, Jeffrey L.(Heather) Kerns and Heidi (Bobby) Cox; great-grandchildren, Brittany Kerns, Erynn Malone, Nathan (Megan) Kerns, Madison (Todd) McDaniel and Jordan Sheridan; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe and Dreydan Kerns, Nora Jones and Callie Mae Kerns; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. 7th St. Ironton, with Pastor Matt O’Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
