Lady Hornets win 2nd straight sectional title

COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets made it back-to-back.
After winning their first-ever sectional championship last season, the Lady Hornets followed that with a second Division III title on Friday with a 10-5 win over the South Point Lady Pointers.
Coal Grove will now play Chillicothe Huntington Ross at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the district semifinals. Ross edged Zane Trace 3-2.
Kasey Murphy pitched a four-hitter and also went 3-4 with a double and a home run.
Addi Dillow was 3-4 with a double and a run batted in as Coal Grove had 14 hits. Lauren Crum belted a two-run homer, Macy Malone was 2-4 with an RBI, Destiny Napier 2-3 and an RBI, Gracie Riley 1-3 with a double and RBI and Lauren Meyer 1-3 and an RBI.
South Point’s offense came from Sophe Morrison who was 1-3 with a double and two RBI, Keianna Conwell 1-3 with a double and RBI, Reece Duncan 1-3 and Sara Allen 1-4.
South Point led 1-0 after the first inning and scored four runs in the top of the second to lead 5-0.
Lakin Adkins reach on an error to score a run, Morris doubled for two runs and Conwell doubled in a run.
Coal Grove got two runs in the bottom of the second to make it 5-2 and a three-run rally in the third inning tied the game highlighted by Malone’s RBI single.
Murphy hit her home run in the fourth as the Lady Hornets scored twice to take a 7-5 lead.
Crum belted her home run as Coal Grove scored twice in the sixth inning.
