Fairland senior wins Ohio ESC award
ROME TOWNSHIP — A Fairland High School student has been named as Lawrence County’s recipient of a statewide scholastic award.
Montana Runnels, a senior at the school, received the Franklin B. Walters All-Scholastic Award, which was established by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association to promote and recognize outstanding academic achievement.
One senior in each county in Ohio is selected each year.
To earn the award, a student must attend a public school within the ESC’s service region and demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, indicated by high grades, test scores and school activities and awards.
Runnels, of Scottown, serves on student council at the school and plays softball for the Lady Dragons.
She is active in 4-H, where she has received numerous awards at the Lawrence County Fair. She was also a runner-up for fair queen.
