A 1996 graduate of Ironton High School, Brown told the audience about her life and the different types of struggles she faced as she pursued her dreams. She said she always liked to use acronyms to help her study.

As she closed, she told the audience, if they remember anything else remember this acronym: LEARN! (L- Let, E – Everything, A – Around you, R. – Raise you to a, N. – New Level!).

The Frances Washington Memorial Scholarship will be awarded on the field at the May 27 Ironton High School graduation by Progressive Women’s Civic Club President Andrea Preston.
