A need being filled

For many students from low-income families, the meals they get at school can be the healthiest they receive in a day.

With the end of the academic year and the beginning of summer, those meals come to an end. Fortunately, there is a program to fill the need.

The summer food program, offered by the Lawrence County CAO, will offer free meals at sites throughout the county these next few months.

These meals are available to ages 1-18 and no registration is required. All those in need have to do is show up at one of the sites, which are placed in locations to best serve low income families.

This program, funded through grants, is a great example of the role government can serve to address the needs of those less fortunate.

A full listing of these sites and meal times can be found on The Tribune’s website. For more information on the program and locations, residents can also call the CAO at 740-532-3140.
