Exhibit to features 70s-era quilts made of polyester

ASHLAND — Ashland’s annual quilt exhibit is going retro this year, with “Poly Palooza.”

This year, the quilts being shown will all be made from the most ubiquitous and indestructible material of the 1970s — polyester.

The exhibit begins at 3 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the Ashland/Boyd Tourism office at 1509 Winchester Ave., Ashland, Kentucky, with light refreshments.

Besides quilts, there will also be a display of clothing made with polyester including 70s leisure suits in colors like lime green, pale blue and brown.

Music for the opening will be performed by Ashland’s own Mrs. Merle Robinson West on piano.

West is famous for her piano playing and she is known to take requests. She toured extensively with country legend Porter Waggoner in the 1970s.

Locally, she is known for playing at the Chimney Corner restaurant and being the music director of Mead Methodist Church in Russell, Kentucky.
