Wurtland, Kentucky artist Sharon Asher Steele currently has 16 original oil paintings on display at the Briggs Lawrence County Library in Ironton.

Born in Cincinnati, Steele said she has loved painting since she was 12 years old and received a paint set for Christmas. She is a self-taught artist, but has also taken a few workshops from some well-known artists.

She and her husband and fellow painter, Shelby Steele, both have a passion for painting, travel and entering art shows and festivals.

The couple has been very busy recently, entering shows in Portsmouth, Jackson and Huntington, West Virginia. Shelby also had a six-week exhibit up at the library earlier this year.

In addition, Sharon Steele is the Artist of the Month at the Third Ave. Art Gallery in Huntington, and the couple sold some of their paintings at a recent festival in Metamora, Indiana, and had pieces on display at the Ironton Wine Festival on Sept. 29 and the Ironton Arts and Crafts Heritage Festival on Oct. 13.

Steele’s exhibit will be on display at the library until Monday, Nov. 26. The Briggs Lawrence County Library is located at 321 S. Fourth St. in Ironton.
