Edith Daniels

Dec. 22, 1929 — Nov. 11, 2018

Edith Mae Daniels, 88, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, at UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. The Scioto County native was born Dec. 22, 1929, a daughter of the late Rev. Jerry and Elva Mae Daniel Bruce.
Edith was a 1947 graduate of Green High School and attended one year at Portsmouth Business College. She was a former loan officer and served on the board of directors for the First Federal Savings and Loan for 40 years, retiring in 1995. She was of the Baptist faith. Her most enjoyable hobbies were sewing, traveling, oil painting, crossword puzzles and reading.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John E. Daniels; two daughters, Linda Daniels and Janice Daniels; a grandson, Tim Mills; four brothers, Albert Bruce, Plyman Bruce, Raymond Bruce and Jerry Paul Bruce; and a sister, Sherlene Lavender.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Dearfield, of Ironton; one sister-in-law, Jean Bruce, of Ironton; one daughter-in-law, Debra Daniels, of Ironton; eight grandchildren, Chris Daniels, Brad Sharp, Jon Daniels, Shanna Daniels, Megan Daniels, Jesse Darby, Derek Daniels and Mindi Daniels; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Gary Arthurs officiating. Burial will follow in Buckeye Cemetery and visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Ruth Carman

Dec. 17, 1929 — Nov. 11, 2018

Ruth Eileen Carman, 88, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, at a local health care facility. The Ironton native was born Dec. 17, 1929, a daughter of the late Emory Lawson and Sadie Hoptry Lawson Duvendeck. She was also preceded in death on June 25, 1992, by her husband, James Stewart Carman Sr., whom she married June 7, 1948.
Mrs. Carman attended Ironton High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. She enjoyed painting and drawing.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David Alan Carman; four brothers, Harold Duvendeck, Richard Duvendeck, Johnny Lawson and Emory Lawson; and three sisters, Mary Murphy, Pauline Sisler and Patricia Keiser.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha (Nathan) Butler, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Brenda (Andy) Gagai, of Ironton; two sons, James (Cindy) Carman Jr., of Springfield, West Virginia, and Kenneth Carman, of Ironton; four sisters, Helen Haggarty, of Canton, Carol (James) Everman, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Nancy Robinson, of Pedro, and Sara Carman, of Cincinnati; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Jim Crawford.
Mass of Christian burial will be noon Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery and visitation will be 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton. Elizabeth Lunsford

March 21, 1945 — Nov. 13, 2018

Elizabeth “Libby” Lunsford, 73, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at a local health care facility. The Lawrence County native was born March 21, 1945, a daughter of the late Floyd and Mildred Collins Bruce. She was also preceded in death on Sept. 3, 2012, by her husband, Ronald Lunsford, whom she married Aug. 11, 1965.
Libby was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and a former nurse’s aide for Bryant’s Nursing Center in Ironton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Davis.
She is survived by two daughters, Angela (Teddy) Mullins and Amy (Ora-Ted) Fetty, all of Ironton; a son, Ronald B. (Jennifer) Lunsford, of Coal Grove; three sisters, Carrie Blanton and Jane Lawhorn, both of Ironton, and Janet Bowman, of South Point; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter on the way.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Rick Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
