Hayes keys Lady Vikings victory over New Boston

NEW BOSTON — The New Boston Lady Tigers had trouble beating the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings because they had trouble seeing through the “Hayes.”
Rachael Hayes, that is.
The Lady Vikings’ junior guard knocked down six 3-point goals and scored 22 points in a 52-43 Southern Ohio Conference win on Thursday.
Emily Johnson added 14 points to the winning effort for the Lady Vikings (2-0, 1-0) before fouling out.
Lexus Oiler scored 13 points while Shelby Easter and Kenzie Whitley had 10 each for New Boston (1-1, 0-1).
New Boston took a 15-11 first quarter lead despite three trifectas by Hayes. Sammy Oiler had eight points including a pair of 3-pointers and Lexus Oiler added a triple.
But the Lady Vikings limited New Boston to only five points in the second quarter and used four points each by Jenna Malone and Johnson to take a 21-20 halftime lead.
New Boston was held to six points in the third quarter while the Lady Vikings built a 32-25 lead ao Hayes drained two more 3-pointers and scored eight points.
Johnson scored eight points in the fourth quarter, Hayes hit a 3-pointer and made two foul shots while Kylie Deer was 3-for-4 at the foul line.
The Lady Vikings were 5-of-10 from the line in the fourth quarter and 8-of-16 for the game.
Symmes Valley hosts Western on Monday.
