GALLIPOLIS — The St. Joseph Flyers must have an unlimited long distance calling plan.
The Flyers hit a school-record 18 3-point goals led by Zach Roach with a school-record eight as he scored a career-high 30 points in a 91-38 rout of the Ohio Valley Christian Defenders on Friday.
Six different players dialed up a trifecta from behind the arc as the Flyers improved to 4-1.
Ryan Payne hits three 3-pointers and scored 12 points, Isaac Whaley scored nine points on three treys, Jackson Rowe hit a pair of 3-pointers as he scored nine points off the bench and both Matt Sheridan and Jimmy Mahlmeister had 3-pointers.
Max Weber didn’t hit any 3-pointers but scored 11 points coming off the bench.
Mark Oliver scored 14 points, Boyce Gruber hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored nine points while Justin Beaver added eight points for OVC.
Roach was sizzling coming out of the starting game with seven of his 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Flyers bolted to a 31-12 lead.
Mahlmeister has his 3-pointers in the first quarter and J.C. Damron scored four of his six points.
Whaley, Payne and Rowe all had triples in the second quarter with Weber and Roach scoring four points each and it was 55-20 at the break.
Whaley and Payne each had two 3-pointers before heading to the bench early in the third quarter. Roach got his final trifecta and Rowe and Sheridan added treys as the Flyers built an insurmountable 81-32 lead.
Michael Mahlmeister had a basket off the bench in the 26-point third quarter.
Weber scored six of the Flyers’ 10 points in the fourth quarter with Andre White and Sheridan each adding a basket.
St. Joseph hosts Rock Hill on Tuesday.
